integrated wastewater treatment and productive bio-systems (brewery, slaughterhouse, surface/lake water)  in developing countries (Fiji, W. Samoa, Uganda, Indonesia, Cambodia,) for production of bioenergy, organic fertiliser and food production, waste utilisation/treatment and management, urban agriculture, sustainable livelihoods and income generation

1980-1981  

principal investigator and developer of the project on "Microsystem for the decay and utilization of sludge from lignocellulose-rich household materials" and performed experiments on methane production from plant materials and pig manure. The project was funded Swedish Board for Technical Development. Project leader: Prof. Carl-Goran Heden, Biotechnology Research Unit, Dept of Bacteriology, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm

1979-1982 

supervisor and developer of project "Survival of bacterial indicators during anaerobic digestion in biogas digesters in Sweden". Project funded by the Sven and Dagmar Salen Foundation.

1978 

co-investigator in a survey on the health and microbial aspects of the utilization of agricultural and agro-industrial wastes in South-East Asia. Visits were made to several research laboratories, factories and private farms in the regions (ThailandMalaysia, Philippines, Singapore).

primary investigator of the projects related to microbial utilisation and production of gases (methane, hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide) with production of single cell protein, ammonia ions, glycerol, methane.

1971-1973 

Research on the isolation and inhibitory effects of antagonistic microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes) and bacteriophages on rhizobia. Work was submitted as M.Sc thesis entitled 

"Studies on causes of failure of nodulation in legumes". Advisors: Dr. N.S.Subba Rao and A.K.Varma. Div of Microbiology, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, India.
