Subject: report on my participation

This is a short report on my participation in the July 20-24,2004 Meeting in Tacna, Peru. The Conference was called the III Congreso Internacional de Biotecnologia.

IOBB was a cosponsor and the IOBB Logo was on the Poster (see image on the right) and in the CD Program handed out to participants .

I took 200 copies of the generic IOBB Flyer (see the attachment to this email) to the meeting which were distributed to the ca. 200 participants. Many of the participants were students (both undergraduate and graduate) from schools in Peru along with faculty from schools in Peru, Nicaragua, Cuba, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Brazil and the US.

The IOBB members from Pakistan who planned to attend were unable to come.

The usual array of Biotechnology topics were supplemted with interesting local subjects like using microorganisms to aid in mineral processing and reducing the required energy and resulting waste (in Chile).

The next (and fourth) meeting in this series is planned for Arequipa, Peru in 2007. It will be hosted by the Catholic University of Santa Maria in Arequipa.

Sincerely,
Robert D. Tanner
