History of MIRCEN-Stockholm
The MIRCEN-Stockholm was established in 1976 with Prof. Carl-Goran Heden as the first director. It started as a center for the development of microbiological methods and then in 1983 focused on use of computer-mediated communications for networking and conferencing to link microbiologists in the world in the harnessing of the beneficial applications of the microbial world for human progress through the vehicle of international scientific co-operation. The Stockholm MIRCEN is now housed at the Applied Environmental Microbiology Unit of the Department of Biotechnology (Royal Institute of Technology).
